Sharp has entered the fray of portable computing announcements with an update to its Zaurus C3100 Linux-based PDA. The C3200, powered by a 416 MHz Intel PXA270 chip, adds a couple of gigs of disk space to go with its 64MB of RAM and 128MB of ROM. Available March 17 for $640 in Japan.

If three times is a charm, then the HTC Wizard, otherwise known as the T-Mobile MDA, T-Mobile MDA Vario, Cingular 8125, i-mate K-JAM, QTEK 9100 and the Dopod 838 must be imbued with magic. T-Mobile's MDA (not to be confused with its nearly identical twin the MDA Vario which has been out for several months on T-Mobile Europe) is yet another iteration of the incredibly successful and popular Wizard design from the prolific Taiwanese original device manufacturer HTC. Out in Feb. 2006 in the US, the MDA competes directly with the Cingular 8125 and the HTC Apache (the CDMA interpretation of the Wizard) sold as the Verizon XV6700 and Sprint PPC-6700.

The YP-Z5 is Samsung's new line of flash based MP3 players reaching microdrive-sized storage of 2GB and 4GB capacities. Samsung decided to go head to head with Apple, pricing the YP-Z5 along side the iPod Nano at $200 and $250 respectively.

Samsung can once again claim having the phone with the most storage--the new SGH-i310 sports an impressive 8GB hard drive. An update to the i300 which had a 3GB hard drive, the i310 is slated to be shown off at CeBIT later in the week. We noted in January about mobile drives being updated to 8 and 10gb versions.

Research In Motion and NTP have agreed to settle the patent dispute over the BlackBerry device for $612.5 million, the companies announced in a press release on Friday. Under the agreement, RIM will receive a license to NTP's patents going forward, they said.

A PDA-like Windows Mobile phone has been successfully coaxed into running Linux. The "Universal," created by Taiwanese ODM HTC and re-sold under various brands, has successfully booted several Linux OSes, after a flurry of collaboration on a developer community forum.
