ToothMote is an application to control Linux computers using a BlueTooth-enabled cell phone. It provides a basis for communicating with a connected cell phone, and then uses a plugin architecture to easily expand the amount of functionality it provides. Other similar applications are Salling Clicker for Mac OS X and Bluemote for Linux.

One of the world's largest global computing consulting firms has entered the market for embedded Linux mobile phone OSes. Wipro Technologies, of Bangalore, India, says its Linux-based Aqua mobile phone reference framework has been successfully deployed on Renesas's SH-Mobile line of application processors for 2.5G and 3G mobile phones.

An embedded software specialist has ported Linux to a rugged PDA targeting military, transportation, industrial, and public service applications. SDG Systems will resell the Tripod Data Systems "Recon" PDA pre-installed with Linux.

The Nokia 770 could be the start of a great thing. Though it's rough around the edges, this could be a terrific little Internet-surfing gadget once Nokia shakes out the bugs (2 pages). UPDATE: One more review here (9 pages) and another one here (2 pages).

Trolltech has updated its software suite for Linux-based mobile phones. Qtopia Phone Edition (QPE) version 2.2 adds VoIP capabilities targeting dual-mode and "converged" devices, among other enhancements.

Four software vendors will demonstrate an integrated Linux mobile phone stack in San Diego this week. MontaVista, Digital Airways, Sky MobileMedia, and stealth-mode startup Bluefin Mobile will show their combined offering running on a Texas Instruments OMAP smarphone reference platform at Sky's "World Handset Forum" event.
