A Linux-based handheld gaming platform that runs native and emulated games is shipping in the US. Gamepark's GP2X is powered by a pair of ARM9 processors, has an "open-source" API and development tools, and can run thousands of classic console video games, online retailer Dynamism says.

Someone at Mobile-Review.com has posted pictures of what they claim to be an upcoming Nokia N73 smartphone. The N73 is expected to run Symbian v9.1 and Series 60 3rd Edition. It should include a QVGA Screen 2.4" true color screen, Bluetooth 2.0, and 3G/UMTS network support.

Ok, so CTIA, the big wireless industry trade show that Ryan and I went to earlier this month, didn't exactly knock our socks off, but we were lucky enough to sit down with Sky Dayton, the serial entrepreneur behind EarthLink and Boingo. Dayton's latest venture is Helio, a youth-oriented (yeah, we know...) MVNO that's all set to launch this spring.

Phones like the Samsung SGH-P300 get their appeal from their compact sizes and low weights. While we have seen similar looking "credit card" type phones in the past, none of them have really offered a complete spec sheet that could compete with other normal handsets of their time like the P300 can.

FreeHand Systems used embedded Linux to build an electronic music reader designed to replace paper-based sheet music in practice, lesson, and performance settings. The MusicPad Pro Plus supports annotations, turns pages with screen-taps or an optional footpedal, and can store "thousands" of music charts, according to the company.

Qtek 9100 is not the direct successor of the popular Compact (HTC Magician) yet it is hard to avoid comparison. There are many enhancements over the earlier model, such as Windows Mobile 5 as the operating system, EDGE and WiFi for fast data transmission, 128 MB of FlashROM, and a convenient slide-out keyboard for typing larger chunks of text. All that together with a more than reasonable price has made this device one of the most eagerly awaited Pocket PCs of the past year.
