Geeks.com gadget review

Geeks.com sent us in for a review three interesting computer parts: a Bluetooth stereo headset, a 16 GB CompactFlash card, and a cleaning brush for camera lesnses. Read in for more.

* BSH01 Bluetooth headset

This headset is the smallest stereo Bluetooth headset we've seen so far. It wraps around your ears and it's literally tiny. The headset supports the A2DP, AVRCP, HSP and HFP profiles. We tested it with two cellphones, and it worked in both mono and stereo modes without a problem. The audio quality was great for monophonic calls, and so-so for stereo music. The BSH01 had good reception, up to 7 meters, while the battery life was lower than in other headsets, at around 4 hours, because of its small size battery. The usage of the headset is pretty straightforward, it includes buttons to pause/play the music, volume up and down and a pairing button. Using the headset in a call mode it supports answering, rejecting, redialing, and voice dialing. Overall, a good solution for those who would like one of the smallest stereo Bluetooth headset around.

* 16 GB Compact Flash A-Data

This is a very affordable high capacity Compact Flash card. At 16 GBs it provides enough space for over an hour of video or for 500 pictures of JPEG+RAW for cameras that support that. We tested this card with the Canon 5D and after we updated the camera's firmware, we were able to fully use it. Mac OS X Panther had a few problems reading the card though, it would not read over 128 files in the card, while there would be over 200 files in there. XP had no problem at all, and in fact, we found the card extremely fast: we copied 100 MBs from the card to the hard drive in just 3 seconds! Other features include Error Correcting Code (ECC), supports power down commands and sleep mode and Wear Leverage function to maximize data endurance. This is a good buy as long as you don't expect your older devices and operating systems to recognize it correctly. Nevertheless, it's a steal at $60.

* Lens cleaning brush

This is a useful and inexpensive tool that all videographers and photographers should use from time to time. It is a lens and LCD screen cleaning kit for capture devices. The retractable brush is gentle and it can clean up any lens without scratching it. On the same kit you will find two plastic pieces that can be placed on the other side of the brush. This soft plastic can be used to clean up your camera's LCD screen. Included is also a soft cloth, that can be used on either lenses and screens. Overall, for just 7 bucks, this a must have little gadget.
